The gap between IT and everyone else is growing exponentially with each new version, device or program. The comprehendability of technology and the IT crew is going down-hill fast. Computer guys are strange, anti-social people who use ‘weird-IT voodoo’ to fix computers when they’re broken.
In today’s age, it’s all we can do to not get left behind as new advances in technology come out constantly. It’s supposed to make life easier, but how? And for whom? Or how many times have you thought, “I know this phone/computer/tablet/etc. can do more but I don’t know what, or how”? This technology illusion tempts us constantly with the idea of being more efficient, faster, easier and all around better without the proper instruction to do so.
I will help bridge this gap.
My name is Bill Sunderland. I work in the Reno branch, for the IT department. I am a recent graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno. I graduated with a degree in Information Systems (a fancy phrase for business computer stuff) and a minor in Spanish (sí, hablo Español). I have tutored people from age 7 to 70 in one-on-one situations to full classes at UNR. The topics ranged from anything like Microsoft Excel to learning how to program.
As a way to give back to both the Reno and ICM community, I will be providing technology related lectures, tentatively called ‘Bill’s Tech Talks’. My talks could be on any IT subject, from how to use certain programs to building your own website. My first series will be on Social Media. I will talk about what it is, how to use it, how to manage all your accounts, how to schedule updates/tweets, etc.
I also have a several social media accounts that I will update similarly. My twitter is @BillsTechTips. I will send tweets about recent technology related news as well as updates on certain ICM tech, like Encompass or Point. At least once a week, I will send a tech. tip (search #BillsTechTips). My Tumblr blog is at http://billicmtechblog.tumblr.com; my WordPress is at http://billicmtechblog.wordpress.com/. There, I will post blogs about technology news, both internal and external. Finally, my Facebook is https://www.facebook.com/bill.sunderland.54. Please follow them as I will update them regularly! Also, be sure to watch out for my updates in newsletter (like this one). Or just google ‘icm Bill Sunderland’ to find them.
Feel free to ask me questions or suggest topics by either tweeting or emailing them. My email is firstname.lastname@example.org. I look forward to hearing from you and progressing this farther!
